Manchester Police arrested a man aged 23, on Friday on suspicion of revealing the identity of the alleged victim Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell on Twitter.

The force said the tweet, sent Wednesday, also contained "personal opinion" of the sender of the alleged victim, who, like all alleged victims of sexual crimes can automatically complete anonymity life . Man remains in custody for questioning.

Chief Inspector Chris Bridge

, GMP Division Public Protection, said: "To maintain the anonymity of victims of sexual crimes is absolutely vital and something that really helps encourage place

"Violation of this statement is a very serious crime and that is why we have launched an investigation as soon as we have done.

"Social media is a powerful tool that does much good, but can also be used to spread rumors, speculation and in this case violate the law.

"When the current GMP covers the use of social media, but when abused in this way we will take measures to bring those responsible to account." The Vell, who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV soap, has been charged with alleged violations from 2001 to 2010. They include six counts of rape, indecent assault, six and seven of sexual contact.
