IPhone trumps Android, and RIM as new data shows the point where half of the British smartphone users is more than a year away
Android is now the top smartphone OS in six eight key competences countries with past Nokia 's Symbian in Spain edged, according to the latest quarterly sample data Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.
In Great Britain Android 's update is growth of non-smartphone owners, rather than driven by migrating from other platforms. According to the research, 74.3% of the new Android sales come from owners of "feature phones"; only 1.4% of the previous owner from new Android iPhone owners are.
The study says are almost 85% of new customers from feature-phone owners: but in Britain it's BlackBerry-maker RIM, which update it is best to handle the non-smartphone owners. RIM announced on Friday that it had won 1m users in Europe alone over the past three weeks.
The research shows the challenges Nokia: this alternation between smartphones, Symbian has 19% of new iPhone users, 17.5% of new Symbian Android Users and 10.9% of the new RIM users.
Every four weeks, about 2.5% of the feature-phone owners have shifted to smartphones since April 2010 in Britain, suggesting that the "Tipping Point", when half of all smartphone users are removed over a year, is located in June 2012.
UK, USA and Australia show a high degree of smartphone penetration and growth, according to Kantar.
RIM is a good performance in the UK, while it is declining in the U.S. and shows no growth in Australia.
Android has grown its share of smartphone users in the UK from 1% to 9.2% between June 2010 and June 2011, although Apple now has its share of the total installed from 5.6% to 10.3%, relative doubled. RIM 's share rose from 3.7% to 7.4% as phone ownership rose from 21.3% to 36.9%. But because the overall market grew, fell from Apple 's market share of 30.6% to 18.3%. ComTech but notes that in Britain the iPhone 4 was the best selling smartphone in the last 12 months.
While smartphone are investments in the UK more male dominated with 60% men, RIM has addressed this trend in recent years reversed, shifting from a male-dominated balance of one year (57% v 43%), a female-dominated (45% Male and female 55%) now.
Although contract rates still dominate - it also has a significant growth in prepaid phone in the UK, which had disappeared from 18% of smartphones by 32% in just one year.
The average price of smart phones has fallen in Britain, in the contract and prepaid markets. In general, remain the most expensive iPhone, free with only 45% of the contracts with the listeners - compared to more than 90% for Android and RIM phones. This means that Android and RIM phones skew toward a younger demographic, the study found.
Android owners, the OS brand is seen as the most important element - while Apple users, it is the availability of applications they value most.
Kantar Worldpane ComTech 's Global Consumer Insight Director Dominic Sunnebo, said: "We are as yet no real evidence of consumers switching between Android and Apple see Our data show that Apple and Android'. S are intensely loyal customers in selecting their update. One reason is the investment consumers make in their device through apps. In France, for example, download the iPhone will cost 215 average, and 17% of iPhone owners for more than 10 applications per month. This investment is lost if they want a different operating system to choose as the apps are not transferable. "
Sunnebo warns that RIM 's market gains now may not last: "With 63% of UK consumer nor the possession of a non-smartphone that future growth lies with the extension of the client BlackBerry is currently pulls the Modernization buyer 84.9% of the new. Customers can still show the possession of a non-smartphone. Our data suggest that most pleased the first time smartphone owners to lower prices. BlackBerry 's competitive pricing allows younger consumers to a Smartphone device at a price they can afford to move.
Are "There is a concern for brands targeted at the lower end of the market that once consumers have a smartphone they tried willing to spend more on their next device, and also to make other brands. With more and more consumers are buying smartphones in the future mid-to high-end smartphones will increasingly competitive. "become
He noted, however, that the BlackBerry Messenger application, which the people are in contact with RIM phones without having to text fees, a key driver will be used: 70% of BlackBerry owners in the age used 16 to 24 had BBM in the last four weeks.
Nokia has staged something of a revival in France, where they lost only 3.9% of the share capital in a market that grew 75% compared to last year - indicating that the number of smartphones being sold. The C7 was the key in it.
Kantar collects its data from interviews with consumers, conducting interviews of up to 1m in Europe alone. These data exclude enterprise sales, which means that RIM 's share can mean everything to understatement.
