Following the arrest last week of alleged LulzSec member 'Recursion', the Guardian has found that another member of the hacking crew used the HideMyAss service for their connection
At least one member LulzSec hacking group, known online as "neurons" can be arrested if drawn by the use of an anonymous British VPN (virtual private network) service proxy, following similar arrest the week pass.
Hackers have already expressedalreadyconsternation when it emerged that Cody Kretsinger, who was arrested by the FBI on Thursday on suspicion of piracy in the Sony Pictures website, have been identified through the use of proxy service to hide your IP HideMyAss (Internet Protocol ) to connect to the Sony site photos.
Kretsinger was supposed by the online handle "recursion" - which arises in chatlogs group Pastebin posted on the site. "Resources," boastedboatedof piracy on the site of Sony Pictures.
However, the records also show that Pastebin another member LulzSec, using the handle "neuron," he also claimed to use the service HideMyAss. Neuron and resources are not the same people: LulzSec records Chatlog published by The Guardian which covers the period from May 31 show the two in the same chat room at once, and once in front of them directly . "Recursion" left the group after it attacked a site in the FBI related to early June, but "the neuron" remained.
HideMyAss, published a lengthy defense of his actions on his blog after the news came out, insisting he had to save the logs:
Being able to track down the abusers is essential for the survival of the operation of a VPN service, if you can not take steps to prevent abuse of the risk of losing contracts with the underlying server providers that enable the start network. Common abuse can be anything from spam to fraud, and the most serious cases involve terrorism and child pornography. The main type of record is the record of the session - this is simply the log when a client connects and disconnects from the server identifies that connects to the IP address in X time X, this is what we do and all that do. Some providers choose not to make the recording session and instead of trying to locate the client through the misuse of intelligence in demand, for example, if someone hacks XYZ.com can monitor traffic and record XYZ.com customers who have a connection to this website. Ask yourself: if a supplier claims not to make any record, but is able to locate the abusive clients, the way they are able to do this without any registration?
The company added that only hand over the records if they have been subject to a valid court order UK: "If a request for information comes to us from abroad, we will not accept this request, unless it is sent through appropriate channels UK and UK judge deserves a court order or subpoena that requires us to provide this information. do not feel intimidated by the U.S. government as some are claiming. we are simply complying with our legal aid system and to avoid potentially be closed and processed it ourselves. "
Some questioned whether HideMyAss - who says he helped people in Egypt to escape repression during the protests of Arab spring - it provides details of those repressive regimes like Syria. The company says that in the blogpost that it would not because "[in] the UK law, there is a law that prohibits the use of Egyptian gaining access to blocked websites like Twitter, but there is one in Egypt."
The revelation that the service is reserved some details of the record has caused outrage among the parts of the hacker community, with a number vowing never to use the service again HideMyAss. A rival service, AirVPN, issued a statement saying it carried a record in the way it HideMyAss: "We would like to assure our users and our customers that none of that [the delivery of the records] may happen AirVPN for a series of legislative measures (which are based in the EU, not in the U.S., and not recognize U.S. jurisdiction, of course) and, above all, technical reasons. "He says he will accept payment in BitCoin, the cryptocurrency, which can be done through the Tor network, for security.
Four people have been arrested in the UK in relation to the activities LulzSec, with three defendants so far.
