tries to locate the context surrounding the search term and lead to more graphics and pop-ups
Google is redesigning the way it manages research in the United States to give users quick access to answers without leaving the page, the company said.
The research process that is based on what Google calls "the graph of knowledge" - which means trying to identify as quickly as the context for keyword searches of its users.
"Over the years, as research has improved, people expect more," said Amit Singhal, Google vice president of engineering and head of research, in an interview. "We see this as the next major improvement in the relevance of research."
The redesign, which currently applies only to U.S. based users of English, is gradually introduced Wednesday in the office, mobile platforms and the tablet. Google plans to expand the search for new functions outside of the United States, Singhal said, without specifying when.
Many of the results lead to more graphic elements, compared to the standard list of search results, such as maps and photos related to the results, often in different pop-ups. The idea is to allow users to easily find what interests them and related documents to click through it, Singhal said.
The offer is the latest example of research companies away to offer a list of text links and search results. Last week, Microsoft unveiled Bing a new design that includes a "snapshot" of the column. Last year, Yahoo launched its "lookup table".
Google is by far the leader in research, with 66% of the U.S. market, according to Comscore. But go to other sites such as Facebook, that competition, because users can not penetrate his friends and acquaintances for information on various topics without leaving the Facebook ecosystem.
- Under existing algorithm of Google, the search for "kings" could raise results for the ice hockey team, the basketball team, and the TV series, all on the first page of results. In the new Google, a box will appear in the top right corner of the screen, giving users the option to immediately limit your search to desired direction of "kings".
In search of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, for example, stops at the first line of his Wikipedia entry, and dates of birth and death, the thumbnails of the most famous buildings, thumbnail images and others are often the architects.
The result is that many users end their search on the Internet without leaving the pages of Google, when in the past that could have a site like Wikipedia, which is working with Google on the new features Research.
