Google offers to settle patent disputes Mobility Motorola brushed Microsoft

Microsoft has rejected an offer from Motorola Mobility (MMI), the phone maker bought by Google, to resolve patent disputes threaten to stop imports of Motorola Devices Android and Microsoft's Xbox video game 360 console in the United States.

patents in question cover a technology called Microsoft ActiveSync, which automatically updates the schedules of some Android phones.

According to Microsoft, MMI has offered to pay for the software giant 33c (21p) for each Android phone via ActiveSync, and requested a fee of 2.25% on the selling price of each one for Xbox, and 50c for each copy of Windows to use its patents.

The decision could have on the edge line. In May, the International Trade Commission, which oversees imports from the United States, recommended a ban on the importation of counterfeit and Android devices Xbox unless the patent issues were resolved.

royalties However, MMI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Google since May, are necessary in some of their own technology and wireless video - specifically H.264 video decoding and some code Wi-Fi - used in the game console Xbox 360 and Windows operating system, or face a ban on imports.

"While we welcome all people of good faith efforts, it is difficult to apply this label to a request by Microsoft to pay royalties to Google well above market rates, who refuses to allow all Microsoft patents infringed by Motorola, and quickly leaked to the press, "said Horacio Gutierrez, vice president, general counsel of Microsoft.
Motorola and Google representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
