An adventure co-op hack-n-slash set in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe? On paper, The Northern War looks like a classical genre. On the screen, unfortunately, the promise remains largely untapped.

At first, things look promising. The choice of one of three characters - Melee (dwarf fighter), ranged fighter and a magician - the game launches soon in action orcs fight the heavy lifting. Fortunately, the combat is very satisfying.

greater familiarity helps, but the combination of the fray, large and critical is exactly what is expected and you can easily create havoc. It's also bloody mess, with members dismembered flying around in an environment that is often bloody.

Unfortunately, problems of collision occurs quite often in the heat of battle. One minute you're clouting your enemy with a big hammer, the next time you are passing the air for no obvious reason.

As with all games of this genre, the action can get repetitive. Run in the region, orc or troll slaughter, entering junk and move on. No surprises here.

course, the engine is new loot and character progression. It is relatively easy to forgive the repetition when you get a brand new sword or power, occasionally brilliant. Upgrading weapons and armor is slightly addictive too, but too simple to be properly compulsive disorders. At least his character is that you take the new gear and loot. And there are many good things for everyone, even if they lose their power faster than you may think.

multiplayer is where the game comes to life, or at least awakening from a stupor. Playing online can be a problem if your computer is one level above or below you, or will be too difficult or too easy. For this reason, online play is recommended.

benchmarks books - like Rivendell - is here, but do not offer enough depth to discourage driving forward the action. The argument is a little disappointed, too. Yes, the action does not actually require an in-depth characterization, but given the source material feels like a missed opportunity.

When you finish the campaign you can play the game again with all your computer again (and enemies), the war in the north, but not really worth the effort. However, doses in the short and with a good team, the war in the North is not without its charms compulsive disorder.

Skyrim
But - and to a lesser extent, the new Zelda - the maintenance of fantasy players more than happy this Christmas you're wondering where the war in the north can be integrated into the sales can January to be the best hope for that.
