The human face of Big Data - an unprecedented exercise in collecting data on personal experiences and beliefs of the world

. More data visualizations and journalism Data

Today marks the launch of the human face of large volumes of data, with separate events taking place in Singapore, London and New York.

This ambitious project, creating award-winning American photographer Rick Smolan, is based on a smartphone application with the same name and designed to collect data on personal and cultural beliefs of millions of people in countries the world.

At the launch in London (24:00 GMT) application has been downloaded more than 100,000 times in ten countries, including the UK, USA, Malaysia and India.

Each person using the application is asked 50 questions, ranging from "Are you a man or a woman?" To "What fits closest to what you think will happen when I die? "

Your answers are then loaded with live scores, visualized by Meta layer, shown here.

interactive visualization enables you to detect trends in responses to a question by demographic characteristics or various different answers to other questions.

For example, filtering by country shows that less than a quarter of Britons think they will go to heaven or hell after death, while in the U.S. the figure is nearly one in two.

another point of view, shows that among those who believe that their parents were "too lenient", almost half now have an optimistic view of life. Only a third of those whose parents were strict say they are optimistic.

Here are some interesting photos:

The application is available for download to Android and iOS * until the end of November, after which all data will be donated to the public library for research and analysis.
