Matt Firor talks PvP system of online gaming, where his experience working on Dark Age of Camelot came to the foreground
Ancient manuscripts online (TESO) divides players into three factions, and the rivalry between the two is what your reader v Player (PvP) system is built. It is also an area where previous work game director Matt Firor is particularly relevant, highlight the title has a long CV Mythic Dark Age of Camelot
Launched in 2001 and still in use, Camelot had an asymmetrical relationship to PvP called "Realm vs. Realm" revolves around three very different factions, and is still considered one of (if not the) benchmarks for PvP MMOG design.
"Yes, we have a PvP progression system that we have not really talked about it yet," said Firor. "And in beta, we go further into this, but you get more points the Alliance PvP, you get more skills, and in this sense is similar to Camelot, where we had Points kingdom.
In Camelot, however, as we had 47 categories which were all different, and after a while, it was much harder to balance it should be - if we have learned anything in the 11 years that followed, is to allow players to create characters they want, and balance there. "
To do this, TESO allows any player, regardless of class or race, use a piece of equipment. "So is symmetric in the sense that everyone has the same options, but of course not everyone will choose the same thing." This raises the possibility of homogenization, players quickly decide what weapons are optimized and run hundreds of waving the sword itself
"As game designers who have to solve these problems independently or character class system that we have," laughs Firor. "In a certain class of the system, run the risk of roll same class, but in a more open, players will have a lot since the beginning, try to find the most powerful build, and it is our duty to ensure that not many viable builds. "
I wonder if there is a difference between difficult classes. Careers in The Elder Scrolls fans have traditionally inherent Firor and they remain as "a point of differentiation." But maybe my thinking is too informed by the conventions MMOG TESO tries to move clear. "We really try to" classes "to highlight one of the quotes:" Firor said.
"And [we want] to develop players more about their options, for example, we want to give everyone access to something like pets - If you want a .. advantage at the moment you can be a person pet, so if you want to be able, you can get it. "A brief digression on development. Skyrim Firor said that players should expect from a family system, and also mentions the possibility to enchant weapons
- "In a special fight, our client is optimized to 200 players on screen at once, which means you have very large battles in a battlefield even greater."
These figures mean many different levels of actors involved, a case resolved TESO automatically increase all stats.
"Everyone is encouraged at the highest level," said Firor. "But you do not have skills that have not yet received -. Points only life and things" PvP A type can be a massive attack on the city, with a defending team, while the other is knocking on doors, firing shotguns, and trying to sneak through the back roads poorly defended.
