The technology works by using electron "spin" to store data in a magnetic state rather than electronics, to provide a nonvolatile memory that does not wear out. The company said that the first chips were about 50 times the price of the size of the flash memory, but when typical NAND module can perform about 800 IOPS, ST-MRAM is capable of 400,000 - which is ideal for storage in SSD Cache and other demanding applications.
